Strom Thurmond at the Caucus of Dixie in 1948

Strom Thurmond implores Caucus of Dixie delegates to cast their votes for a southerner for president, instead of President Truman. Thurmond and the president clashed in the 1948 presidential campaign primarily over the issue of civil rights. No decision was reached on his demand. (July 11, 1948)
