A group in San Antonio tackles old murder cases that police have never been able to solve. The group is nonprofit and all its members work on a volunteer basis at the behest of families of murder victims who, after years of waiting, want some resolution in their loved ones' case.

Kathy Albrecht isn't exactly an amateur but she is a civilian. The former cop searches for lost pets using her specially trained bloodhounds, and a Weimaraner. Along the way she is developing data about how lost animals behave, and how to best find them.
