Work With Marty Nemko What Politicians Are Like When The Microphones are Off

On the May 25, 2014 edition of Work with Marty Nemko, I talk with New York Times Magazine chief national correspondent, Mark Leibovich about his book, This Town. Written by a Washington DC insider, this book reveals the Grand Canyon between many politicians' stated and true motives.

About this book, Lois Romano from Politico wrote that Leibovich was being "privately assailed" for sending "a chill through the elite after-hours social circuit." He writes, "The systematic dysfunction of Washington...sustained a vast, decadent, and self-obsessed political class."

Work with Marty Nemko includes a semi-regular feature, "What's It Really Like to Be a ...." Here we look at what it's really like to be a politician. This should be of interest to anyone who has ever thought about a career in politics as well as anyone desiring a deeper understanding who we're voting for and how our money is being spent.

If time permits, I'll also do Three-Minute Workovers on callers. Whatever career conundrum is besetting you or someone you care about, I usually can offer at least a baby-step forward.

Work with Marty Nemko is heard every Sunday from 11 AM to noon on KALW, 91.7 FM in San Francisco and worldwide on kalw.org. The podcast is available for a week on the NPR site and in perpetuity on this page

Work with Marty Nemko 021614 Laws of Power

I rarely have a guest make a repeat appearance, especially within a short time. But the listeners and I much enjoyed and benefited from Robert Greene's recent appearance to talk about his book Mastery, which profiles 50 people and what they did to obtain mastery.

His previous book is a true classic, The 48 Laws of Power and on the Apr 20, 2014 edition of Work with Marty Nemko, Robert Greene will be back to discuss it.
