PROGRAM 1:
    INVENTING THE POSTER CHILD

From Dickens' Tiny Tim to the poster children of 20th century fundraising campaigns, the public has been encouraged to give to those in need. But can that be accomplished without exploitation? This show explores how the disability charity business was built and how people with disabilities are working to change it. This site contains many of the primary source documents described in this on-air program. You will find most of them by exploring the Charity theme on the navigation bar above. All the thematic material is arranged into four chronological periods.
