RADIO'S PREMIER SHOWCASE FOR AMERICA'S FINEST YOUNG MUSICIANS

What began as a radio experiment in 2000 quickly became one of the fastest growing and most popular weekly classical music programs on public radio. Broadcast on nearly 250 stations nationwide to an audience of more than 700,000 listeners each week, From the Top, hosted by acclaimed pianist Christopher O'Riley, celebrates the amazing performances and captivating stories of America's best pre-college classical musicians.

Each one-hour broadcast presents five high-caliber performances along with interviews, sketches, and games, revealing the heart and soul behind extraordinary young musicians ages eight to 18. The show is taped before live audiences in America's premier concert halls from Boston to San Francisco. Now in its tenth year on air, From the Top has featured prominent guest artists including Yo Yo Ma, Hilary Hahn, Bobby McFerrin, Midori, Béla Fleck, and more. Alumni of From the Top can now be found in the country's top orchestras and are emerging with solo careers. From the Top also encourages its young performers to share their music with new audiences and give back to their communities through its arts leadership program.

The New York Times says: "From the Top gives young musicians the stage but lets them act their age. It's serious music but classically kids." From the Top has been described by the Boston Globe as, "entertaining, accessible and inspirational." The Los Angeles Times exclaims, "Tune in to From the Top and give yourself a dose of music and hope."

From the Top is an independent non-profit organization based in Boston. In addition to its weekly NPR radio broadcasts, From the Top reaches millions through its PBS television series, education and community outreach programs, online media, scholarship program, and national tour of live events. These programs position young performers as inspiring role models for their pursuit of excellence and encourage participation in the arts as an integral part of a vibrant and civil society. From the Top's training and mentorship programs prepare young artists to connect with new audiences, realize their potential as leaders, and give back to their communities.

From the Top is made possible through grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation. It also supported through the generous contributions of individuals and foundations as well as radio stations around the country. From the Top's radio program is produced in association with WGBH Radio Boston and New England Conservatory of Music, its home and education partner.
