Welcome! It's In Rehearsal, the new Web show from NPR.

On our first edition of In Rehearsal, we'll be bringing you the Kronos Quartet at work.

Kronos has two violins, a viola and a cello. But Beethoven's not their thing. Instead, the group has explored musical territory from Crumb to Piazzolla, from the fado bars of Lisbon to the throat singers of Tuva.

The members of Kronos let us listen in as they went through the process of rehearsing, recording, and mixing one of the cuts on their new album, Nuevo. It's not typical string quartet material. It's a space-age-bachelor-pad concoction by Juan Garcia Esquivel. He called it, "Mini Skirt."
