Esquivel's "Mini Skirt"

Inspired by Brazil
So why is the Kronos Quartet playing lounge music, anyhow? David Harrington says he was inspired by Esquivel's arrangement of "Brazil." The original recording lay in a vault for 39 years before it was released in 1999 on the album See it in Sound.

"You follow this guy who's going into these different bars," Harrington says. "There's a different arrangement of the same tune in each of the bars. So you hear the listener walking from one bar to another, then hear the ambience. I just thought it was a great idea — a fantastic concept and a beautiful musical adventure."
