Carol Kaye: Bassist of the Hits!
If you've followed popular music in the last three decades, you've probably spent hours listening to bassist Carol Kaye, though you almost certainly didn't know it. The former jazz guitarist has played with some of the best-known artists in the recording industry and helped devise signature elements in a number of popular hits -- such as the staccato opening bars of the Mission Impossible theme. Among others, she's collaborated with the Beach Boys, Ray Charles, the Righteous Brothers, Johnny Mathis, the Doors and Henry Mancini.
