October 31: Carol Bellamy
Carol Bellamy is currently in her second term as Executive Director of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF). Since her appointment in 1995, she has worked to guarantee the rights of children throughout the world in addition to directing UNICEF resources to the challenges of HIV/AIDS, poverty, and the achievement of sustainable human development.

Prior to her work at UNICEF, Bellamy was director of the United States Peace Corps. Bellamy also served five years in the New York State Senate and was the first woman president of the New York City Council (1978-1985).
