Cataloguing the Climate
March 7, 2001 - Weather isn't always small talk. Just ask Steven Fybish. While he makes his living teaching public school, Steven Fybish teaches much more than the standard curriculum. For the last 25 years, Fybish, an "avocational weather researcher an
d climate historian," has been studying, cataloguing, and memorizing every aspect of New York City weather from his newspaper-crammed apartment on the Upper West Side.
Heat waves and cold snaps, downpours and blizzards, Fybish has seen it all -- and committed it to memory. He can even recite the yearly snowfall for each of the last 130 winters.
In our Morning Edition story, produced by Sound Portraits, we meet this "climate historian", who has been pretty busy this year. Listen to the Morning Edition interview with Steven Fybish.
