A graphic depicting Voyager as it nears the end of the solar system.

Two new papers argue whether Voyager 1 has reached the end of our solar system, a place called the heliopause. Here the sun's solar wind, which envelops the entire solar system, meets and gives way to the particles of interstellar space. Scientists believe that a giant shock wave exists where the solar wind bumps up against interstellar space. The region is called the "termination shock."
