Dave Thomas
Dave Thomas, founder of the Wendy's hamburger chain, is known for his low-key, simple sincerity, whether it's being displayed in a commercial or through his philanthropic work.

Thomas' background reflects his homespun image. He dropped out of school to enter the restaurant business, and later — after learning the trade from Colonel Harland Sanders — opened the first Wendy's in Columbus in 1969. He named the business after his daughter, Wendy.

Thomas has served as national spokesperson for President Bush's "Adoption Works ... For Everyone" campaign; testified before Congress in support of tax credits for adoptive families; and appeared in television public service announcements promoting adoption.
