David Gunn, Amtrak president and CEO

Before leaving retirement to take over as president and CEO of Amtrak, David Gunn held the top position at the transit systems in New York, Washington and Toronto.

Gunn spoke about the future of the U.S. passenger rail system and told the Press Club of the company's work to keep the system in good repair and secure funding from the federal government.

"Ridership this year will probably set a record for the company, despite the power outage, the hurricane and the war," Gunn said in his speech. "At the risk of being hauled out of here in a straight jacket, I'm actually optimistic about the future of Amtrak."
