Knight Ridder Chairman Tony Ridder spoke to the Press Club about some of the difficulties newspapers face in today's environment -- both commercially and in obtaining access to government officials and documents. "From a dearth of presidential press conferences to worries about the classification of documents," Ridder said, "our [reporters and editors] are greatly concerned."
Knight Ridder owns more than 30 daily newspapers in the United States. Ridder has previously served as both president of Knight Ridder and president of its newspaper division. He also directed the company's development of Knight Ridder Digital, which operates a network of more than 80 regional Web sites, including Real Cities.
