NASCAR Chief Operating Officer George Pyne and driver Tony Stewart spoke to the National Press Club about the history and growth of NASCAR. The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing operates 90 races yearly in 25 states. Stewart won the 2002 Winston Cup, a competition that draws about 6 million spectators.

"Only the NFL has a larger TV audience than NASCAR," Pyne told the Press Club. "If you took the attendance at the Super Bowl, the World Series and the NBA finals, [it] wouldn't equal the attendance of the Daytona 500."
