David Gergen and Vice President Cheney

David Gergen, commentator and former presidential adviser, provided the keynote speech at this year's Ford Journalism Awards at the National Press Club. Mark Thompson and Michael Duffy of Time magazine won the journalism prize for national defense reporting and James Carney of Time won the journalism prize for reporting on the presidency. Vice President Dick Cheney served as the awards presenter, in a role typically handled by former President Gerald Ford, who was unable to attend the event.
