Pianist and composer Clare Hansson is one of Australia's best-loved entertainers and a well-known part of Brisbane's jazz scene since the '70s. She has performed with Australia's top artists as well as internationally known musicians Ernestine Anderson and Jimmy Witherspoon.

Hansen has just completed her Ph.D. in Jazz Studies from Queensland University of Technology. Her dissertation focuses on the life and pioneering work of Marian McPartland. She has presented a paper on McPartland at the International Association of Jazz Educators' Conference in New York.

Hansson is known as Brisbane's "First Lady of Jazz," and she regularly performs at clubs and festivals with her own trio.
