Jeremy Siskind Show Song List

(Originally recorded March 9, 2006)

Jeremy Siskind and Marian McPartland On a recent visit to the Eastman School of Music, Marian McPartland was introduced to a rising junior and jazz performance/music theory major named Jeremy Siskind. McPartland was impressed by this young man's talents and wasted no time in inviting him to be on Piano Jazz.
Siskind originally hails from Irvine, California. He's been playing piano since the age of 4, and perhaps more impressively, has been composing since age 6. While in high school, Siskind had his own combo, played in his high school jazz band and was chosen to perform in several all-region jazz bands. He also began racking up a number of prestigious awards, including top honors at the Fullerton Jazz Festival and the Reno Jazz Festival.

His compositional acumen was recognized when he won ASCAP's Young Jazz Composer Award in 2002. An original piece called "Saxology" earned him the Downbeat Student Music Award and his original compositions have taken him to Tokyo, Japan where he performed at Yamaha's Junior Original Concert Program.

Siskind is currently a student at the Eastman School of Music, where he performs with their Jazz Ensemble and other top groups. He's also teaching a Jazz Piano course there. In addition, Siskind has studied with the likes of Shelly Berg, Bill Cunliffe and Fred Hersch.
