Masterprize 2003
Masterprize is perhaps the most prestigious competition in the world for new compositions. With a mission to re-connect composers and their audiences, the last competition in 2001 received over 50,000 votes from music lovers around the globe via mail and the Internet.
For Masterprize 2003, organizers received over 1,000 entries from 65 countries. Each composition was required to be from six to 15 minutes long and scored for a symphony orchestra of 50 to 90 players. Through two rounds of juries that included conductors, orchestra general managers, internationally renowned artists, distinguished classical record producers and radio broadcasters, the field of compositions has been narrowed down to six. The finals took place on Thursday, October 30, at a Gala concert at London's Barbican Hall. Daniel Harding conducted the London Symphony Orchestra in all six compositions, and the live audience got to cast their votes as well. Listen to the music below and decide what your favorite Masterprize composition is. The Finalists
