Daniel Harding is one of the brightest of a new generation of conductors. In 1994 he made his professional debut with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, for which he won the Royal Philharmonic Society "Best Debut" award. Having assisted Sir Simon Rattle during 1993-94, he was also assistant to Claudio Abbado in the 1995-96 season, culminating in his debut with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra at the 1996 Berlin Festival.

In 1996 Daniel Harding became the youngest conductor at the BBC Proms, conducting two programs. He returned to the proms in 1998 to conduct the Scharoun Ensemble, whose members are drawn from the Berlin Philharmonic, performing Schoenburg’s Pierrot Lunaire, and in 2000 for a concert with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie, Bremen.

Between 1997 - 2000, Harding was principal conductor of Trondheim Symphony Orchestra in Norway. He is currently music director of the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie, Bremen and principal guest conductor of Sweden's Norrköping Symphony Orchestra and of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra.

Guest conducting engagements have included concerts with the Berlin Philharmonic, Rotterdam Philharmonic, London Symphony, London Philharmonic, City of Birmingham Symphony, Oslo Philharmonic, Santa Cecilia Orchestra of Rome, Leipzig Gewandhausorchester, Dresden Staatskapelle, Swedish Radio Symphony, Frankfurt Radio Symphony, Toronto Symphony and the Orchestre des Champs Elysées. In the U.S. he has performed with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Atlanta, Baltimore and Houston Symphony Orchestras.

Engagements during the 2000/2001 season in Europe included returns to the City of Birmingham, London Symphony, Berlin Philharmonic, Rotterdam Philharmonic, Oslo Philharmonic, Leipzig Gewandhaus and Swedish Radio Orchestras. His débuts included the NDR Hamburg, Orchestre des Champs Elysées, and Bayerische Staatsoper Orchestra.

He has conducted three new opera productions, Don Giovanni directed by Peter Brook at the Aix-en-Provence Festival, which toured to Lyon, Milan, Brussels and Tokyo, Luc Bondy’s production of Britten’s The Turn of the Screw, also at the Aix-en-Provence Festival and Katie Mitchell’s production of Jenufa for Welsh National Opera. Earlier this season he conducted The Turn of the Screw at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden and this summer returns to Aix-en-Provence for a new production of Eugene Onegin directed by Irina Brook and a revival of Don Giovanni next season. He makes his début with the Bayerische Staatsoper with a new production of Die Entführung and returns to Aix-en-Provence for a new Wozzeck.

Future dates include concerts with the Dresden Staatskapelle, Leipzig Gewandhausorchester, Orchestre National de France, London Philharmonic, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Royal Concertgebouworkest, Toronto Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic and his début with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra when he will conduct Mahler’s Tenth Symphony.

Daniel Harding is an exclusive Virgin Classics artist. His recordings include Beethoven Overtures and Brahms Symphonies 3 and 4 with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie; Mozart’s Don Giovanni recorded live at the Aix-en-Provence Festival and Britten’s The Turn of the Screw, both with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra; works by Lutoslawski with Solveig Kringelborn and the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra, and works by Britten with Ian bostridge and the Britten Sinfonia (awarded the "choc de l'annee 1998").
