Andean Archeologist
December 3, 1997 -- Two years ago, on an Andean peak in Peru, Dr. Johan Reinhard and his colleagues discovered a frozen, mummified Inca girl, dating to about the time of Columbus. Now the high-altitude archeologist and his team are back on the peak, Mount Ampato, 20-thousand feet above sea level. In the latest National Geographic Radio Expedition, NPR's Alex Chadwick ventures to Mount Ampato -- without leaving NPR's studio in Washington. He talks by satellite phone to Dr. Reinhard, about his discovery, and what else he hopes to find. |
