Wildlife on Midway Island

audio icon Listen to the show

July 14, 1998 -- Midway Island, located twelve hundred miles northwest of Hawaii in the Pacific Ocean, is probably most famous for the historic World War II battle fought there in 1942. But today, it's becoming known as one of the most beautiful and remote wildlife sanctuaries anywhere.

Hundreds of thousands of sea birds call the area home. The Fish and Wildlife Service has made a deal with a private company to bring tourists to the remote island. What is happening on Midway Island will amaze you.
