Mark Sawula in Mornington, Australia:
"We live in Mornington, a bay side town 25 miles outside of Melbourne. Heather, and I and our 8 month old son Daniel walked down to the beach. We weren't the only ones with this idea, about 100 other people were gathered.

The skies were pretty clear -- we saw a shooting star, listened to the waves, lit sparklers, drank champagne and watched the fireworks in Melbourne. (an hour a way--- saw on the horizon)

On a dare - 3 young blokes took their clothes off and did cartwheels, posed for a picture and streaked home.

We were thinking about perceptions of time.. our son gave us an intense new experience of 8 months. This new year celebration drew our focus out into history. We've been thinking a lot about Gandhi and working towards non-violence.

Live in the present, be bigger than the moment, make love and peace happen."
