Scot Henry in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA:
"The clock passed midnight about three hours ago, and like the rest of the world, virtually no problems related to the Y2K changeover have occurred in the Milwaukee area. I drove home from a party west of the city, and saw the lights of Milwaukee shining brightly as they always do. The BBC was coming through my car radio clearly, and I spotted someone on a street corner successfully making a call at an outdoor pay phone. All is well here in this Midwest city.

All day the news broadcasts have been reporting on the celebrations around the globe. It has been very gratifying to see how people in very different places have unified in celebration. These have been joyful gatherings free of any apparent divisions. Most importantly, the celebrations have been free of violence.

A group of about 80 of us gathered early in the evening for a potluck meal, and danced until midnight. After our countdown to the year 2000, we exchanged hugs and continued dancing. Our gathering reflected what has been happening all over the planet.

The celebration for me would have lasted longer, but, like many other computer support people on this planet, I will be visiting the office later in the morning. I plan to confirm what I suspect - that the systems are running without a glitch, and all is well."
