Oct. 23-25, 2003 -- It's an event of such musical, architectural, social and economic import that organizers had to spread it over three days: the gala opening of the stunning new Frank Gehry-designed Walt Disney Concert Hall. One of the most talked-about new American buildings in decades, Disney Hall is already a Los Angeles landmark.
For three star-studded nights, Los Angeles Philharmonic Music Director Esa-Pekka Salonen will lead his orchestra and special guests in performances of Bach, Stravinsky, a new work by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer John Adams, and a celebration of Hollywood's rich history of symphonic music in cinema.
What? You don't have tickets? Relax -- NPR will take you there live, presenting each spectacular concert as it happens in three special two-hour programs, produced with southern California NPR member stations KUSC-FM, KCRW-FM, and KPCC-FM.
NPR will provide all of its member stations with these L.A. Philharmonic specials on Thursday, October 23, Friday, October 24, and Saturday, October 25, beginning at 7:00 PM ET each evening. Check your local station for air times in your area.
In addition, NPR will present four radio documentaries on both the L.A. Philharmonic and Disney Hall, produced by KCRW-FM and KUSC-FM. The documentaries are available for listening on-demand here.
