Hamlet: Act V
A group of high-security prison inmates rehearse and stage a production of the last act of Shakespeare's Hamlet.
This American Life - Aug. 9, 2002
(Thanks to WBEZ and PRI, who produce the show.)
Suggested by Julie, who listens to KCUR in Kansas City, Missouri:
Act I: I've found myself decreasing speed to buy time until the final sign-off. I slowly turn into my cul-de-sac, up the driveway and into the garage.
Act II: After shutting off the motor, the garage door closes. I sit in my car, for a brief minute illuminated by the Genie, then my face glows dashboard yellow. Time passes.
Act III: My welcome party ceases barking, giving up on a timely dinner. My husband has come to accept his garage-hermit wife.
Eventually, I exit the car and enter the house deep inside my contemplative fog. Another enriching moment and time well spent. Is there an encore? Every day.
