"Last Saturday morning I was driving home after working an exhausting night shift at a childrens' hospital in California. After a stressful night of sick children, anxious parents and overworked nursing staff, I found myself mesmerized by an editorial about Mr. Rogers.

It made me remember just how warm and nice I felt as a child when I watched his show. It made me think about the reasons I became a physician and specifically a pediatrician.

I just hope that like Mr. Rogers, I will strive to be nice to all the children I encounter who are ill and frightened. Just like him I fear that many of these kids might not hear a kind word all day. If I can give them a kind word, some sympathy and a smile, then my job has been worthwhile."
