Eggnog
With the holidays approaching, thoughts turn to foods -- and drinks -- of the season, including that naughty-but-nicely flavored favorite, eggnog. Below, by popular request, NPR Online offers some eggnog recipes that listeners enjoyed in years past.

Susan Stamberg: Truth, Justice and Cranberry Relish

Cranberry Relish
Every Thanksgiving since 1971, Morning Edition Special Correspondent Susan Stamberg has managed to sneak a recipe on the air: Mama Stamberg's cranberry relish, which she insists "sounds terrible but tastes terrific." Stamberg says she had resolved not to air the recipe this year -- but thanks to Osama bin Laden, the tradition continues.

Comfort Foods
To dispel life's stresses, especially since Sept. 11, Americans are turning to comfort foods. When All Things Considered host Linda Wertheimer asked cooks what makes a dish comforting, Macaroni and Cheese cookbook author Joan Schwartz gave this reply: "It looks good. It smells good. It tastes good. It goes down easy. But in addition to that, it takes you back to a place where you felt cared for and nourished, maybe more secure than we all feel right now. It's almost like a hug."

Paris Cookbook

Patricia Wells' Paris Cookbook celebrates 20 years of eating and cooking in Paris

Three-Star Repasts from Paris
In past books, veteran food writer Patricia Wells collected casual recipes for bistro food. Now Wells has produced The Paris Cookbook, a celebration of the three-star establishments and world-class chefs of her beloved home city. From all the scrumptious contenders, how did Wells choose the recipes for the book? "When I go into a restaurant," she says, "I look at recipes that I think are do-able, ... but most of all they have to appeal to me and they have to be something I want to make for my family and friends." Thus, the book's recipes range from a caviar-topped watercress soup to a homey apple cake.

Fantasy Thanksgiving
Continuing a Morning Edition tradition that began in 1993, host Bob Edwards invites some of the country's best chefs for a potluck Thanksgiving dinner. Wolfgang Puck whips up his potato galette, Chef Paul Prudhomme assembles his mammoth Turducken (that's a turkey, stuffed with a duck, stuffed with a chicken!), Julia Child mashes potatoes and Maida Heatter does (of course) dessert.

Thanksgiving Turkey
Windows on the World at the World Trade Center was one of the largest restaurants in New York. Each year at Thanksgiving, it offered a traditional Thanksgiving dinner to some 1,500 people. Talk of the Nation features the restaurant's special roasted wild turkey.
