Dear fans of Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me!,

These past months have obviously been anxious and scary for my family and me. But we've been blown away by the goodness of friends, family, and people like you. When I was stuck in the hospital last winter, the nurses thought I was some kind of celebrity because of all the mail I received. It was remarkable. I got cards from "Wait, Wait" listeners in Europe, South Korea, California, Virginia -- all over. I heard from the first girl I asked out in college. And the first girl I asked to prom (she said no because -- allegedly -- her mom wouldn't let her go). But mostly I got thoughts, prayers, funny cards, kind words from people I’ve never met. And I’m truly grateful.

I finished treatment in August and have had regular checkups since then. I handled the treatment fairly well. I got to shave my head. I got to be with my wife and young son much of the time. Aksel turned four months old the day I got out of the hospital and I was able to spend most of the next 6 or 7 months with him. Really, it was a kind of paternity leave with some bad side-effects and Boost chocolate shakes.

Now, we wait. I go to work. I go in for blood tests every couple weeks or so. And we hope that the treatment worked.

Thank you so much for your kindness.
