Music Cues: The Giants Steal the Pennant?

This week The Wall Street Journal added an epilogue to a storybook ending. Half a century
ago, the New York Giants and the Brooklyn Dodgers met in the deciding game of a
three-game playoff series. Bottom of the ninth, Dodgers up, 4-2, at the old polo grounds.
Two men on base. Bobby Thomson of the Giants at bat. Ralph Branka on the mound for the
Dodgers. Russ Hodges in the radio booth.
Mr. RUSS HODGES (Sports Announcer): Branka throws. There's a long drive.
(Unintelligible) has the lead. The Giants won the pennant. The Giants won the pennant. The
Giants won the pennant. The Giants won the pennant. Bobby Thomson hits into the lower
deck of the left field stands. The Giants won the pennant. And they're going crazy. They're
going crazy. Man, ho!
