Chick Corea

Liane Hansen with Chick Corea at National Public Radio.
For more than 30 years, Armando Anthony "Chick" Corea has covered the musical spectrum by composing jazz, jazz-rock fusion, Latin jazz and classical music. He started playing the piano at age four, and grew up in a house where the music of Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Bud Powell and Lester Young was a constant.

With his new band Origin, Chick Corea has returned to an acoustic style while featuring a strong horn section. His first two recordings with the sextet were live, but earlier this year, they released their first studio recording, Change, on Corea's own independent label, Stretch.
