Lately, improvising pianist and electronic musician Bob Gluck has been obsessed with Mwandishi, Herbie Hancock's electroacoustic jazz group from the early '70s. He's been presenting academic papers around the subject, and is now shaping that into a book on the history and aesthetics of the band. At his website, he has posted recent papers and excerpts, and at a blog he's keeping about the writing process, he's workshopping ideas and Herbie-related thoughts. Good news for those who, like me, believe that Sextant is the new hotness that is actually 38 years old. [Blog: Bob Gluck's Blog; Website: Bob Gluck Home Page]
