This is an open letter to Aaron Young and His Nightjars: I'm sorry I'm only now getting to your beautiful, self-titled CD. You sent it back in January and, somehow, it only now found its way to my desk. Please know that once I had the pleasure of hearing it, I fell in love with your songwriting, the uncluttered instrumentation, the carefree and innocent vibe of the melodies. You've got a great voice, too. Lots of emotion there, without being overly sentimental.

From what I've read on your Web site, you wrote these songs while sitting on the floor in an apartment in Temple, Texas, because you didn't have any furniture. I'm guessing there were probably days when you thought of throwing in the towel and going to work at the McDonald's or Lowe's you say you could see from your living-room window. But please know I'm glad you decided to stick it out. It also sounds like you got some great help from a few friends, particularly on bass and drums, and with the mixing. They did a great job.

I had a hard time picking a favorite cut from Aaron Young and His Nightjars, but one I keep going back to is "I Can Believe."
