I Guess We're All A Bunch Of Sensies

All Songs Considered host Bob Boilen, Monitor Mix blogger Carrie Brownstein, NPR Music editor Stephen Thompson and I got together this week to acknowledge Valentine's Day by sharing some of our favorite breakup songs. It's not that we're coldhearted. We just wanted to do something different, since we'd already covered love songs in past shows, with listener picks and lesser-known love songs. We even invited filmmaker John Waters in to spin some of his favorite music on Valentine's Day.

Bob was hoping we'd each play at least one angry breakup song, just so the mix wasn't filled entirely with sappy, brokenhearted ballads. But it turns out none of us chose one that fit the bill. NPR Music contributor Mike Katzif suggested "Song for the Dumped" by Ben Folds Five. It's got some great lines, such as "I want my money back (and don't forget to give me back my black T-shirt)" and "Wish I hadn't bought you dinner right before you dumped me on your front porch."

We'd love to hear what you think. What are some of your favorite angry breakup songs? We're looking for ones that capture the mood just as a relationship is ending, before you've moved on to sadness, acceptance, forgiveness and so on — assuming you ever reach those stages.
