The wait is over, music lovers. Today, we're announcing our lineup for NPR Music's opening-night showcase at this year's South By Southwest music festival and conference. Spoon will headline the show, which will be webcast on and broadcast live on five NPR member stations, beginning at 8 p.m. ET Wednesday, March 17, from Stubb's in Austin, Texas.

Also on the NPR Music bill for opening night: Broken Bells (Danger Mouse and James Mercer of The Shins), Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, The Walkmen, and one of our favorite discoveries of the past year, Visqueen. We'll have a more detailed schedule with exact set times a bit later on the site.

(Another NPR Music lineup at SXSW, after the jump...)

All of the performances will stream live on and on stations KUT (Austin), WFUV (New York), WXPN (Philadelphia), KEXP (Seattle) and The Current from Minnesota Public Radio.

But wait! That's not all. (Cue spokesmodel.) We've got another lineup of great music scheduled for the next day, Thursday, March 18. Beginning at 1 p.m. ET, we'll webcast and broadcast live from The Parish in Austin, with six sets from Sleigh Bells, Surfer Blood, Local Natives, Brooklyn Rider, and the rap duo G-Side, from Huntsville, Ala. If you only counted five bands and want to know what the other is, you'll have to check back later. We're still looking at a short list of artists to fill the final slot and will announce it soon.

As we did last year, All Songs Considered host Bob Boilen, Monitor Mix blogger Carrie Brownstein, NPR Music editor Stephen Thompson and I will be out and about, taking in a boatload of live shows, offering updates with video clips and more on the All Songs Considered blog, and podcasting late-night dispatches about the garden of delights that awaits us — i.e., music, music, music. Can't wait.
