From the soulful wail of Gaby Moreno, to the counter-protest protest songs of La Vida Boheme, to a Puerto Rican woman Alt.Latino co-host Jasmine met on the New York City subway named Rosateresa, this week's show has something for everyone. Jas just returned from a life-affirming long weekend at the Latin American Music Conference, where she met amazing artists from all over the world.

The conference features musicians from all kinds of genres, from punk to hip-hop to indie. Bands like Choc Quib Town and Rita Indiana played shows in venues as large as Central Park, while Guatemalan singer Gaby Moreno performed in the smaller, more intimate club SOB's. The conference is now in its 12th year, and co-host Felix Contreras remembers the excitement in the Latin music community when it all began.

This year, everywhere you went it seemed you could see bands from every corner of the Latin disapora, but Venezuela was definitely in the house. So this week, in honor of their outstanding showing, we bring you the boisterous sounds of two Venezuelan groups: La Vida Boheme and Cuarto Poder, who call their music "criollo rap." We round things out with a slowed-down reggae version of "Sweet Dreams" by our favorite Dominican lover, the unforgettable Rita Indiana. And we end things with the beautiful and unusual sounds of Rosateresa, a true diamond in the rough.
