If this week's show sounds a little like a beach trip, it's because we're riding a summer heat wave and need to cool down with some fresh new music.

We set things off with Canada's A Tribe Called Red and Monterrey, Mexico-based DJ Javier Estrada doing "Indigenous Power." After that, we head to the seaside with Mexico's Mr. Raccoon. His voice on "Acceso A La Playa Publica" ("Access To The Public Beach") reminds me a great deal of Gustavo Cerati, lead singer for Soda Stereo, one of Latin America's most celebrated rock bands. It's a mellow tune, ideal for a stroll in the sand. We keep it chill with "Pirata," a new Ocote Soul Sounds track, and then maintain the mood with a ballad by Argentine rock group Mateo De La Luna En Compañía Terrestrial.

We always try to include a classic song of the week, and since I was earlier reminded of Cerati's magnificent voice, I took the liberty of picking one of my favorite Soda Stereo songs, "Zoom." Cerati suffered a stroke last year, which has left him in a coma ever since. I've always been a huge fan of the band and his solo work, and listening to his music for the first time in a while made me happy and melancholy all at once. Maybe it's the joyful beats or the wistful guitar licks, or just Cerati's sensual voice, but this song has always felt like summer to me.

This week's show goes down like a much-needed glass of ice water, so tune in and chug it down!

———————————————————————————————————————— Esta Semana En Alt.Latino: Nueva Música Para Refrescar Oídos
