It was only a matter of time before Donald Trump would have to accept the inevitable and pull the plug on his latest planned reality show project, the planned Newsmax-ION cable TV channel presidential debate that was supposed to take place later in late December.

With only Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum accepting the invitation, it wasn't going to be much of a debate.

The only question was what face-saving explanation Trump would resort to. In the end, which was Tuesday, he used the excuse some of the candidates and Republican National Committee left available to him, that his serving as a debate moderator represented a conflict-of-interest since he might decide to run as an independent for president.

That explanation was gentler on Trump's ego than any acknowledgment that some of the GOP candidates and campaigns, like Rep. Ron Paul and Jon Huntsman, had knocked a Trump-moderated debate as beneath the dignity of a presidential campaign, even a struggling one, as in Huntsman's case.

The Trump debate that is not to be can now be added to the list of Trump failures. And, wouldn't you know it, the helpful folks at Time have compiled a list which includes Trump Airlines and Trump vodka.
