The opening of "Hunt or Gather" took place at the Saville Gallery in downtown Cumberland, Maryland. It was part of the neighborhood's Art Walk.
The gallery quickly filled up with guests. Photographs by Michael Lease and sculptures by Nellie Appleby were on display.
Visitors were invited to read the artists' statements upon entering the gallery.

Lease's photo project, entitled "Send Me the Pillow You Dream On," involved 43 participants each sending him four separate photos. Here, guests examine one part of the exhibit: photos of 43 distinct window views.
Kate Macdonnell poses next to her high school photo, in which she's wearing a blazer she says she wore every day her freshman year. Lease enlarged 43 high school photos for another part of the project.
Visitors look at another component of the photo collaboration: pictures of where the participants sleep.
