"Stupid like a fox."

Clayton Quarles

Planet Money listener Clayton Quarles writes:

...On my drive back today I caught up on the "putting a price tag on your descendants" show and got a kick out of it, since I have the discount rate formula tattooed on my leg. ...

In college I was a finance and accounting major and had an incredible professor who ignited a love for finance and economics in my heart. (Can you tell I'm a nerd?) He wrote this equation on the board one day and exclaimed that this was the most important formula we would ever learn in finance — and that we should get it tattooed on our foreheads backwards so that we saw it every morning in the mirror as we brushed our teeth.

"Would you give me an A if I did?" I asked.

"Sure Mr. Quarles," he said. "If you're stupid enough to get that tattoo, I'll give you an A."

Stupid like a fox. ...
