50 States Project

Curated by British photographer Stuart Pilkington, The 50 States Project is the collaborative endeavor of 50 photographers in, you guessed it, 50 American states.

Every two months, the photographers are given an assignment; within two months, they must produce one image. "People" was the first of four assignments that will be doled out this year. It resulted in 50 different images that, at least conceptually, represent both the state and the photographer's style. Here's a selection of images from the first assignment.
