Photography Pulitzers Announced

The 2010 Pulitzer Prize winners were announced today, awarding a variety of prizes in journalism, literature, dance and even cartoons. The photography awards for feature and breaking news have gone to Craig F. Walker of The Denver Post and Mary Chind of The Des Moines Register, respectively.

Walker's feature essay, "Ian Fisher: American Soldier," is a comprehensive multimedia package that crafts a poignant portrait of a teenager struggling through enlistment and transitioning into military life.

Other finalists in the feature photography category include Mary F. Calvert of The Washington Times for her story of rape in the Congo, and Robert Cohen of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch for his story on suburban families left homeless by the recession now living in motels.

Chind won the breaking news award for her image of a dramatic river rescue. To browse the entire selection of past winning images, visit the Pulitzer archive.
