The awful thing about getting sick — from food poisoning, no less — is that not only did I miss the Wednesday Political Junkie episode on Talk of the Nation and the Thursday episode of the "It's All Politics" podcast — but I never announced this week's ScuttleButton winner! A trifecta if there ever was one.
The links to the TOTN show (where I was ably replaced by Don Gonyea & Mara Liasson) and the podcast (where Andrea Seabrook rescued me) will appear when I get them. But first, the ScuttleButton winner.
ScuttleButton, of course, is the weekly presentation of buttons where you need to take one word or one concept per button, add 'em up, and arrive at a familiar saying or a name. (Seriously: a saying that people from Earth might be remotely familiar with.) Submit your answer and hope you're the person chosen at random. That's it!
Oh wait. You MUST include your name and city/state to be eligible.
Also, the answer does not necessarily have to be political. For instance, the answer to a puzzle awhile back was "Minnesota Twins" — not political at all, unless you're thinking Mondale and Humphrey instead of Killebrew and Oliva.
Here are last week's buttons, in case you forgot:
Tom Salmon for Governor — Salmon, a Vermont Democrat, was elected in 1972.
Jan Can! — And Jan did. Jan Meyers, a Republican from Kansas' 3rd District, won her first congressional race in 1984.
Draft Ted In 1980 — Democrats unhappy with President Jimmy Carter wanted Sen. Kennedy to take him on for the nomination in 1980. He did but fell short.
I Spent An Evening With Richard Nixon And ... This is from the Gore Vidal Broadway play that lasted 16 performances at the Shubert Theatre between April and May, 1972. Bonus Trivia: Among the cast members was Susan Sarandon, who played Martha Mitchell and Tricia Nixon.
So, when you add Salmon + Jan + Ted + Evening, you might end up with ...
Some Enchanted Evening, the memorable song from Rodgers & Hammerstein's "South Pacific."
This week's winner, chosen completely at random, is (drum roll) ... Liz Mundy of East Lansing, Mich.
