Trilogy Of The Decade?

The world is changed. I feel it in the water. I feel it in the earth. I smell it in the air. Much that once was is lost, for none now live who remember it.

I know I seem like a nerd, what with all the BSG'ing and Trekking and Middle-Earthing I do. But here's the thing; there are few opening scenes of any film — fantasy or otherwise — that create a world as well as the opening of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. The beginning lines, transcribed above, could be the opening to any epic on any earth. Cate Blanchett as Galadriel does them the honor of speaking them as though it is the beginning of Richard III.

Why, you might ask, was I watching this? Tomorrow, we'll talk to A.O. Scott about his picks for films of the decade — and cites the Lord of the Rings trilogy as some of the most influential over the last ten years.
