Last night I caught up on some back-issues of the Washington Post food section, with the Men's Snowboard SuperPipe final of the X Games playing on the TV. I couldn't help but tune in when the commentators started talking, inevitably, about Shaun White. One mentioned that Bloomberg recently awarded him the #2 slot on their Power Sports 100 list — the list of the most powerful athletes in the world. It's an incredible accomplishment for the 24-year-old snowboarding phenom, whose sport is still considered "alternative" by old-schoolers. This year, he's second only to Peyton Manning, and surpassing Tiger, Shaq and Lance.

White went on to an unprecedented fourth consecutive win in the event, which can only help cement — or even boost — his status as one of the premiere athletes in the world.
