Muses And Metaphor

April is National Poetry Month and sure, we could dive into classic sonnets of William Shakespeare, the revolutionary rhymes of Nikki Giovanni, the legendary Persian poems of Rumi, or the love verses of Pablo Neruda. But on Tell Me More, we will celebrate National Poetry Month by featuring the poetry of our listeners, with a cool twist. These poems will also be "tweets," messages —one hundred forty characters or less— exchanged via Twitter.

It's all part of our Muses and Metaphor series, combining two of Tell Me More's passions: poetry and social media. And to help us along, we have poet, writer and performer Holly Bass. She is also a poet-in residence for Busboys & Poets restaurants in Washington, D.C. Bass will be Tell Me More's curator, helping to choose some of our favorite tweets to feature on the program.

Send us a tweet and help us celebrate poetry. Go to Twitter and tweet us your original poetry. If your poem is chosen, we will help you record it. Then, throughout April, we will air those poems. Sweet, right? So Tweet us using #TMMPoetry.

We no longer support commenting on NPR.org stories, but you can find us every day on Facebook, Twitter, email, and many other platforms. Learn more or contact us.
