For Most In U.S., It's A White Christmas

Looked outside yet this morning? If you're in the U.S. there's a pretty good chance you'll see some snow on the ground.

As NPR's Howard Berkes reports: "58.3% of the nation is covered with snow, according to the National Weather Service. Just three weeks ago, only 11% of the ground was snow-covered."

Want to see for yourself just where the snow is? NOAA has an interactive online tool you can play around with. Here's the image I created, showing the snow cover as of early this morning:

Of course, the snow may be pretty — but it's also created a mess for many travelers. So be careful out there.
