"SEATTLE — Sheriff's spokesman says Seattle police have fatally shot suspect in officer shooting."
That's the "alert" the Associated Press just released.
At The Seattle Times, it's being reported that:
Maurice Clemmons was shot and wounded in South Seattle and has been taken to Harborview Medical Center, according to a law enforcement source. ... Clemmons has been the focus of a manhunt since Sunday morning when he is accused of killing four Lakewood police officers in a coffee shop in Parkland."
Earlier, police were searching for Clemmons across two counties in Washington State.
Update at 12:55 p.m. ET: The Times has posted video from a news conference held earlier today by police in Seattle.
Update at 9:45 a.m. ET. From Seattle, NPR's Martin Kaste reports that the suspect was spotted by an officer who had come upon a stolen car that was idling in the street. Police say Clemmons ignored the officer's order to stop:

Update at 8:10 a.m. ET: We've updated the headline of this post to remove any doubt about whether Clemmons is dead, now that The Seattle Times is reporting this:
Maurice Clemmons, the suspect wanted in slaying of four Lakewood police officers, was shot and killed in South Seattle early this morning.
Clemmons was standing outside in the 4400 block of South Kenyon Street when he was confronted by officers. He challenged the officers and was shot around 2:40 a.m.
Update at 7:15 a.m. ET: KING5 TV in Seattle reports at its Twitter feed that "Pierce County police have confirmed to us that shooting suspect Maurice Clemmons is dead."
