During U.N. General Assembly, Nicaraguan Diplomat Found Dead In Bronx Apartment

The man, whom the New York Post identifies as Cesar Mercado, "a senior official who works at the Permanent Mission of Nicaragua to the United Nations," was discovered in a New York City apartment this morning.

According to the New York Daily News, "the 34-year-old man was found around 10:30 a.m. behind a door at a building on the Grand Concourse near E. 180th St."

An NYPD spokesman said the cause of death was still under investigation, but confirmed a knife was found near the body.

"We believe he resides at the apartment," said Deputy Police Commissioner Paul Browne.

Police think the driver was about to take him to the U.N. General Assembly.
