For the first six minutes or so in last night's basketball game between the men of the University of Illinois and the men of Oakland University, the guys were playing with a women's league ball.
The smaller circumference and lighter weight might help explain, the Chicago Tribune says, why Illinois shot so poorly in the game's early minutes.
"It felt like a Nerf ball," Illinois senior guard Demetri McCamey told reporters after the game. An official apparently picked it up off a ball rack that had been used during a recent women's game in Illinois' Assembly Hall.
The Illini beat their rivals from Michigan, 74-63.
